From Norton Simon Museum, Pasadena:
Women bathing, grooming, or otherwise engaged in their personal hygiene populate many of Degas' works. They were often depicted combing or drying their hair, arms upraised, seen from the back. Degas brings to these compositions an intense interest in movement and gesture, enlivened by radiant pastel coloration.
