From National Gallery, London:
This pastel showing dancers performing on stage dates from late in the artist's career. As often with Degas at this time, the composition originated in nude studies of individual figures. Assembled here into a group and garbed in radiantly colourful costumes, they are painted in a free and expressive manner.
